CUET PG Psychology

The CUET PG is the primary gateway for admission into postgraduate (MA/M.Sc.) psychology programs across Central, State, and several Private Universities in India, including Delhi University (DU), BHU, TISS, NFSU, Ambedkar University, and so on.

Recent Update- Now CUET PG is also applicable for admission to MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) at NFSU

The CUET PG is an offline (Computer-Based Test) that is conducted around the month of March. For the 2026 intake, it will be conducted on 16th March. It contains 75 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). For every correct answer, the applicant is awarded +4 marks. For every incorrect answer, there is a negative marking of -1. A total of 90 minutes is allotted for exam completion.

Minimum eligibility- Students in the final year of Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related subjects are considered eligible. Students who have completed their bachelors are also eligible, now even masters students can appear as it is an entrance test for admission to NFSU's MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) Course

The official syllabus prescribed by NTA is as follows: Introduction to Psychology, History & Schools of Psychology, Biological Basis of Behavior, Learning, Memory, Motivation, Emotion, Sensation, Perception, Intelligence, Personality, Abnormal & Clinical Psychology, Psychological Testing, Statistics and Lifespan Psychology.

MA Clinical Psychology (RCI Recognised)

From the 2026 academic session, this program is set to serve as the primary route to becoming a Clinical Psychologist in India. The purpose of this 2 year program is to provide clinical training, supervision and research that qualifies one to obtain RCI registration as a Clinical Psychologist.

A student with a 4 year Bachelor’s degree (BA/B.Sc.) in Psychology with at least 55% marks is considered eligible to apply. Candidates with a 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Psychology must complete a 1-year Bridge Course in order to be eligible. Students with a Master’s in Psychology with 55% aggregate can also apply

Manav Rachna University, Gurugram University, Christ University (Bengaluru), Amity University (various campuses), and SGT University are one of the few institutes that offer this course. There is no set prescribed syllabus, as the exam pattern and topics vary from institute to institute. Overall, the highly repeated themes include topics from general psychology, psychopathology, statistics, research, biopsychology, psychodiagnostics, developmental psychology, important laws and acts.

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)- Psychology

Psychology (Subject Code: XH-C5) is a part of the Humanities and Social Sciences paper in GATE. Every year, the GATE exam is conducted in the month of February. In 2026, it was conducted on 7th February, with IIT Guwahati as the organising institute.

Third-year undergraduate students or those who have completed their Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in Psychology are considered eligible to apply. Some of the benefits of qualifying the GATE exam include admissions to Cognitive Science programs in IITs, validity for PhD admissions and recruitment by DRDO or NPCIL.

The GATE exam tests applicants across 3 sections: General Aptitude, Reasoning & Comprehension, and Psychology. The question types include MCQs, MSQs (Multiple Select), and NAT (Numerical Answer Type) questions. The standard syllabus prescribed by official sources includes the following: Research Methods, Psychometrics, Biological Basis, Cognition, Perception, Learning, Memory, Forgetting, Personality, Motivation, Emotion, Stress, Coping, Social Psychology, Development Across Life Span, and Applications of Psychology.

UGC NET Psychology (National Eligibility Test)

Conducted by the NTA, the UGC NET exam determines eligibility for Assistant Professorship and the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Unlike the other exams, UGC NET is conducted twice a year, in June and December. For the December 2025 intake, the exam was conducted on 2nd January 2026.

Students who have completed a Master's degree in Psychology with at least 55% marks are considered eligible to apply. Qualifying JRF provides research opportunities in premier institutes, while qualifying for Assistant Professor makes one eligible for faculty positions in Indian universities.

The exam tests applicants on 2 sections. Paper 1, that includes 50 questions on general aptitude, whereas Paper 2 includes 100 questions on Psychology from the following topics: Emergence of Psychology, Social Psychology, Research and Statistics, Psychological Testing, Biological Basis, Attention, Perception, Learning, Memory and Forgetting, Thinking, Intelligence and Creativity, Personality, Motivation, emotion, stress and coping, Human Development and Interventions and Emerging Areas in Psychology.


PDCP (Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology)

The PDCP is a one-year intensive program designed to train Clinical Psychologist (Associate) professionals. Students who have completed MA/M.Sc. in Psychology (Clinical/ Counseling/ Applied) with 55% marks are considered eligible to apply.

Upon completion of the course, students can register themselves with RCI as Clinical Psychologist (Associate). They can work in hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers but cannot hold independent academic/ teaching positions. The admission process Includes an entrance exam (objective/written), group discussion, and interview. A few institutes that offer this course are as follows- JSS, Indlas Hospitals (AP), B.M. Institute (Gujarat), G.D. Goenka University, and various Amity University campuses.
